If you have a brand new computer or thinking of purchasing one in the near future, is one of the things that need to be aware of how e-mail from the old system to new system.
At least once a week in my work as a Help Desk Analyst, can help a client set Outlook or Outlook Express (there are other email clients that are used, but these two are the most popular) on Their new computers. Once we finished with the installation and open toInbox asked the question: "Where my old email?" The answer is simple, "on the old computer. Then, of course, the question of follow-up is?" How can I get the new computer "
Easy or difficult
The easiest way to do this is to turn again to external hard drive or a compact disc player, computer, before entering and then copy the new new computer the same exact directory. The hardest position in the event of a crashComputer or the inability to access files normally. I cover a bit ', which in another article entitled "Got Backup? What you can find on my site.
Outlook Express
Outlook Express e-mail e-mail folders / stored on your hard disk by a simple directory is buried in that very deeply into the operating system. Instead, I type the full path, it is easier if you open Outlook Express, click Tools, then clickOptions.
Copy / Paste
Once you're here, click the Maintenance tab and click the Store Folder button. This opens another window with the location of your email. Using your mouse, highlight the path and then right click and copy.
You will then click Start, click Run, and then right into the Open box, and add the path. Click OK.
This opens another window with the mail file. If you add a different folder onOutlook Express, the default folder is here with a. Dbx extension (Inbox, Sent Items, Drafts and Deleted Items).
Backup
If you write these files to a CD, you can at that moment with your favorite burning software (assuming you have installed a CD burner on your computer, burn).
To copy to an external hard drive, you now need to connect a device with your computer, create a folder on your hard(I call it is usually by e-mail backup), copy the files from your old computer, then paste the file in your e-mail backup.
Import
After copying the files to CD or external drive, then you go on the new installation of Outlook Express and import messages. It would be nice if you could simply copy the new OE and be done, but Microsoft is not how we do it this way.
Open OE and click on "File, Import, Messages. Thisimport a new window called to open Outlook Express. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 then click Next. Click in the circle that says "Import mail from an OE6. Click OK. Then click" Browse "and navigate to the directory where you saved and click. Click OK. The next window will give you a list of all e-mail folders that previously saved. Hold "All folders" is selected and click Next.
This is the process of importation of all "old" e-mailYour "new" Outlook Express. Once that is done you all your old e-mails are back! Cool, eh?

The procedure to save and import your e-mail in Outlook is similar, but different.
To begin with Outlook uses a file named pst files or folders. Do not ask me why they call it that. Bill Gates to call and ask him.
Export
We begin with the old computer and open Outlook, click File, then click "Import / Export. Thisopens the import / export wizard. Select "Export to a file, click Next. Select" Personal Folder File "here and then click Next. In the Export Personal Folders dialog box, it's your choice that you want to do. The easiest way is to keep the default selection of incoming mail only, but if you want your sent items and any other folder, select the top entry (personal folders) and then select the Include subfolders and click Next.
The next window is a standard Position in
(Usually C: Documents and Setting computer Settings'your name'Local DataMicrosoftOutlookbackup.pst Application). I would recommend the same procedure as in OE (see above). Then click "Finish" and let it do what it is.
Once you save the PST file, switch to the new computer and import process is again similar to OE.
Connect your external hard drive on your computer or insert the CD intoDrive>.
Import
Open Outlook, click File, then Import and Export. In the Import / Export Wizard, this time select "Import from another program or file" and click Next. In the 'Import Files "window, scroll down and select Personal Folder File (. Pst) and then click Next.
The import folders in 'Personal, click the Browse button and navigate to the location of your PST file backup, select it and then click Next. Click "Finish" and it will import allYour news.
